Grammar: Modals
has to/have to
  • Wanneer:
Je gebruikt has to/have to om zekerheid, noodzaak of verplichting uit te drukken.
Als iets echt niet anders kan
  • Vorm:
+ onderwerp + has to / have to + hele werkwoord
?   Do/Does + onderwerp + have to + hele werkwoord (has to valt dus weg in een vraag zin
  • Voorbeelden:
I have to prepare for classes every day.

Grammar 19: Modals
Should and have to.
You should try this new app. It's great.
Susan shouldn't go to bed so late.
We should recycle more products.

It's important. You have to listen carefully.
He can't go out. He  has to do his chores first.
you don't have to knock on the door.
Je gebruikt should(n't) + hele werkwoord als jij vindt dat iets wel(of niet) zou moeten. Adviseren.
Je gebruikt has to/have to/doesn't have to/don't have to + hele werkwoord om te zeggen dat iets van iemand anders moet of dat iets niet hoeft. Have to drukt sterkere dwang uit dan should.

Slide 15 - Slide

Must
  • Het moet
  • Geen advies

You must wear special goggles

Slide 16 - Slide

Must

Je gebruikt must (not) + het hele werkwoord als je vindt dat iets (niet) moet. Must is krachtiger dan should.

1. You must check the tyres before going on the road.

2. You musn't buy that game. It's a waste of money.
