Verb constructions: verb + ing

Verb + ing: na de werkwoorden avoid, can’t stand, enjoy, finish, look forward to, (not) mind, miss, practise, stop en ook na prepositions (= voorzetsels) gebruik je verb+ing. 

Voorbeeld: I enjoy swimming in Summer. 

> Enjoy = verb (= werkwoord) 

> Swimming = lijkt op een werkwoord, maar is nu een noun 

(= zelfstandig nmw.)

Verb constructions: verb + to-infinitive

Verb + to-infinitive: na de werkwoorden agree, allow, ask, choose, decide, forget, hope, learn, offer, plan, try, want, would like/love gebruik je 

verb + to-infinitive.

Voorbeeld: I agreed to help my sister. 

Verb constructions: use both constructions

Beiden: na de werkwoorden like, love, hate, prefer, start kun je beide constructies gebruiken. 

Voorbeeld: 

> I like reading books. 

> I like to spend my time with friends.
