Past Simple: uses
We use the PAST SIMPLE for actions that started and finished in the past.
Signal words are: yesterday, last week, last year, in 1994, five hours ago, etc.
I saw a movie yesterday.
I didn't see a play yesterday.
Last year, I traveled to Japan.
Last year, I didn't travel to Korea.
Did you have dinner last night?
She washed her car.
He didn't wash his car.

Past Simple: Positives
- We just need our main verb, in its past tense. We add -ed behind regular verbs, and the irregular verbs you need to know by heart.
I ate slept drank wrote relaxed

Irregular verbs
Er zijn zo ongeveer 200 onregelmatige werkwoorden in het Engels. Deze moeten jullie uit jullie hoofd leren. We gebruiken deze alleen voor positieve zinnen.
Bij negatieve- en vraagzinnen gebruiken we immers na did/didn't het hele werkwoord. Zie de volgende slides.

Past Continuous: Usage
We use the PAST Continuous to talk about actions and states in progress (happening) around a particular time in the past.
In het Nederlands gebruiken we dan vaak ‘was aan het…’ of ‘waren aan het…’.
Signal words are: when, while, at (insert time)
When we got to the house yesterday morning, the baby was drinking a bottle.
He was waiting at home all day when she sent him the message.
Alan was cutting the grass the other day when the snake appeared.
I was not sleeping when you got home late last night.
