Grammar: Past Simple

Onregelmatige werkwoorden (irregular verbs)

- Werkwoorden in de verleden tijd die geen -ed achter het woord krijgen -->Ze hebben een onregelmatige vervoeging

-Tijdsbepaling (yesterday, last week, two hours, days, weeks in 1800)

- ring becomes rang
-have becomes had
-did becomes done

I .........(read) three books last week.

They.......(speak) French to the waitress.

He.......(understand) during the class, but now he doesn't understand.

She........(have) a baby in June.

At the age of 23, she ........(become) a doctor.

I.......(know) the answer yesterday.

He.......(tell) me that he lived in Toronto.

She.......(drink) too much coffee yesterday.

I........(choose) steak for dinner.

They........(bring) some chocolates to the party.

Past Continuous

-Om aan te geven dat je iets een tijdje deed

1. We were laughing when they arrived.

2. I was sleeping while my mother was cleaning the house.

to be + werkwoord +ing 

When (toen)/While (terwijl) -->signaalwoorden

Wil je aangeven dat je iets een tijdje deed, dan gebruik je de past continuous.

Om de past continuous te maken heb je altijd 2 werkwoorden nodig, namelijk was/were + werkwoord met -ing erachter.

Luke......(sleep) at three o'clock.

Mr Black .......(not/work) in his study when the murder happened.

He.......(use) the internet at twelve o'clock.
