Zo pak je een examenvraag aan

Vraag: What is the main idea of the text?

Text 1: More than books
(1) Ask most people what a library is for and you will hear the same answer: books. That answer is increasingly out of date. Walk into the central library of a medium-sized town today and you may find a repair café in one corner, a language class in another and a group of teenagers doing their homework at a long wooden table.
(2) Librarians say the change began when borrowing figures started to fall. E-books and streaming had taken over part of the library's old job. Rather than close their doors, many libraries asked a different question: what do people in this neighbourhood need that they cannot easily find elsewhere?
(3) The answer was often surprisingly simple: a place to meet. Cafés charge money, and for many people home is lonely or crowded. A library is free, warm and open to everybody, from newborn babies to pensioners reading the paper.

Text 1: More than books (vervolg)
(4) Critics worry that the new approach goes too far. They fear that books will be pushed aside by workshops and coffee machines. Some older readers complain that the building has become noisier. These concerns are understandable, and most libraries have responded by creating quiet zones.
(5) Yet the books have not disappeared. Many visitors who come for a workshop leave with a novel under their arm, and librarians believe that meeting places and reading actually strengthen each other. A person who feels at home in a library is more likely to borrow from it.
(6) That is why the future of libraries looks brighter than many expected. By becoming places where a community comes together, they have found a role that no website can fully take over. The library is no longer only about books; it is about people.

What is the main idea of Text 1?
Libraries are losing readers and will soon close
Critics think libraries should return to books only
Cafés and libraries now offer the same services
Libraries stay valuable by becoming meeting places
Alinea 6 vat samen.

Vraag: What is the main point of paragraph 3?

Text 2: Why we love markets
(1) Every Saturday, the square in front of the town hall changes. Stalls appear overnight, and by nine o'clock the smell of fresh bread and fried onions drifts across it.
(2) Shoppers say they come for the food, but many stay for something else. Stallholders know their regular customers by name, ask after their families and put the best tomatoes aside for them. A supermarket checkout rarely offers that kind of attention.
(3) The prices are not always lower than in a supermarket, and the choice is smaller. Even so, most customers do not mind. They feel they are buying from a person, not from a company.
(4) This is why markets survive in the age of online shopping. People do not only want products; they want a bit of company with their groceries.

Leestekst voor vraagtype 2. Kernzin alinea 2: Shoppers say they come for the food, but many stay for something else.
What is the main point of paragraph 3 of Text 2?
Supermarkets have lower prices and more choice
Shoppers prefer a market despite its small drawbacks
Market stallholders sell their food too cheaply
Customers feel safer buying from a big company
Goed antwoord: Shoppers say they come for the food, but many stay for something else.

Vraag: Which sentence is the best summary of the text?

Text 3: Learning to fail
(1) Many schools reward students for getting things right. Some teachers now argue that this is a mistake: if mistakes are always punished, students stop taking risks.
(2) Take Daniel, a fifteen-year-old who loves chemistry. At his old school he never raised his hand unless he was sure of the answer. Last year his new teacher started giving points for good questions instead of correct answers. Within a term, Daniel was the first to try every experiment.
(3) Critics fear that the new approach lowers standards. Teachers who use it disagree. They still expect correct answers in the end, they say; they just want students to dare to get there by trying.
(4) In the long run, students who are not afraid to fail may learn more than those who always play it safe.
Which sentence is the best summary of Text 3?
Students learn more when mistakes are not punished
Daniel enjoys chemistry more than any other subject
Schools should stop asking for correct answers
Teachers think that standards matter less than fun
