- friend Rowdy - born mad / , screams a lot, cries a lot, most important person 
- character - his parents are drinkers too, slow reader, goofy comic books
- Spokane PowWow festival
- feels like a loser, is scared of Rowdy because he does weird things, Rowdy ruins things 
- Andruss triplets, 30 years of age, cruelest people he knows

ch 4 - Because Geometry is not a Country..
- happy to be in High School at 14, loves geometry
- triangles make him hormonal - sexual experience (gets of on a building, rectangular things
- sister - after high school, she froze, like stopping her life
- Mr P, teacher, sleepy, doesn't demand anything, wears pyjamas in school,

ch 5 - Hope against Hope
- smashed a book at mr P, broke is nose, suspended from school
- feels ashamed, spends suspension with grandma on porch, she cries a lot, mr P visits him
- mr P tells that they hurt children to 'kill the Indians and save the child' (kill Indian culture)
- mr P also taught his sister, calls her very smart, she wanted to become a writer, tells him that he is smart too and deserves more in life
- mr P tells him to leave the reservation; never give up

ch6 - Go means go
- who has the most hope - white people
- wants to transfer schools - to Reardan - a rich white farm town, a Hick town (farmers, Rednecks, racist cops)
- has the best small schools in state
- parents agreed, wish a better life for him
- realizes that fellow tribal members will be jealous and will torture him

ch 7 - Rowdy sings the Blues
- tells Rowdy he transfers to Reardan
- Rowdy is not amused
- they've been to Reardan previous year for football, Rowdy is star quarterback, kicker and middle linebacker; they always lost from Reardan
- Rowdy thinks he's too scared to transfer and doestn't believe it; both boys cry, feel pain, Rowdy hits him hard and best friend becomes worst enemy

ch 8 - How to fight Monsters
- Dad drives him to Reardan; scared, one way bridge, no return to rev school
- dad calls him a warrior, gives soms lunch money
- meets white school kids, looking at his black eye; mascot is an Indian, so now there are two; he feels worthless, 
- enters class room while everyone stares; Penelope, he introduces himself as Junior; he is laughed at
- Real name is Arnold Spirit; first time he feels confused about his name -> Junior in Rev and Arnold in Reardan; 
- doesn't speak for 6 day and 7th enters fistfight ( Rev rules when to fight) and ends being bullied in this school too; Roger the Giant insults him and he punched him, Roger doesn't fight back. Different rules here,

ch 9 - Grandmother gives me advice
- talks with granny about Roger; she thinks he respects him
- second day dad can't drive as no gas, he'll have to walk
- Eugene, good drunk, funny,kind, drives him to school on motorbike, looking rather dangerous
- Roger just asks who that man was, impressed by vintage bike
- seems granny was right about respect
- Penelope makes fun of him, making him feel ashamed

ch 10 - Tears of a Clown
- first love Dawn, when he was, powwo dancer, long braids, made fun of him, out of his league
- he confessed his love about her to Rowdy; he tells she doesn't give a shit about him, makes him cry
- Rowdy keeps this secret

ch 11 - Halloween
- dresses as homeless dude; not much different with normal clothing; Penelope as homeless woman; cute couple
- she wears this costume as political statement, a protest how homeless people are treated; wants spare change (to give to homeless people)
- trick-or-treating in rev; gets beaten up, change stolen. maybe by Rowdy?
- explains to Penelope he gpt attacked and money stolen; she is concerned about his wellbeing, but doesn't lead to friendship.
- asks Rowdy advice; he tells him to change his looks, clothes and speech

ch12 - Slouching towards Thanksgiving
- next weeks he feels lonely, grows zit on nose
- white kids ignore him; Roger just nods
- he discovers he is smarter than most white kids
- he contradicts mr Dodge (geology class) about petrified wood; smart kid Gordy tells he's right; did it for science, not for him. 
- getting home is a challenge; as dad forgets to pick him up
- Sister married flathead Indian, moved to Montana; even whites are scared of them
- starts friendship with Gordy, tells him about his cartoon drawing; Gordy gets excited of books and he thinks in a sexual way, just as he has with buildings. Gordy means joy

ch 13 - My Sister sends me an e-mail
- Mary (his sister) tells about her life in Montana
- her 'rez' has several towns, some of them with white people
- one town Polson tried to secede from the rez (civil war)
- she honeymooned in hotel where she ordered fried bread (Indian food) almost as good as granny's

ch 14- Thanksgiving
- snowless, turkey perfectly cooked
- funny idea as Pilgrems shot Indians few years later
- visits Rowdy, has drawn a cartoon about their friendship
- Rowdy pretends not to be home
- end of friendship??

ch 15 - Hunger Pains
- in school, needs to go, hears vomiting in girls' bathroom
-  Penelope leaves bathroom; she is bulimic, not anorexic
- tries to encourage her, then she tells she feels lonely and scared and people only she her beauty and smartness
- they become sort of hot item, everyone is shocked; hand holding, little kisses, makes him popular 
- Penelope's father Earl is racist
- Penelope has great dreams and wants to leave Reardan; he dreams too

ch 16 - Rowdy gives me advice
- after watching Penelope playing volleyball, he e-mails Rowdy telling him he's in love with a white girl
- Rowdy thinks he's an asshole who wants a white girl as trophy
- he asks Gordy advice, after research he tells him that he is a racist. Gordy is as tough as Rowdy
