What is a NOUN?
A noun is a word for a person, animal, place or thing.

Example: doctor, cat, school, city, pen, bag.

Also things that you cannot see: hunger, love, pain, idea.

How can I be sure it is a NOUN?
Put THE before the word:  

doctor - the doctor (good, that is a noun)
pain      - the pain      (good, that is a noun)
is            - the is            (NO, NO, that is not possible. Not a noun)
like        - the like         (NOT possible to say that. Not a noun)

What is a VERB?
Often, verbs are easy to find. They show action:
run, laugh, eat, work, etc.

Sometimes, verbs are not so easy to find...
When they do not show an action:
have, is, like, want, seem, do, etc.

How can I be sure it is a VERB?
Put a PRONOUN (I, you, he) before the verb to see if that makes a correct sentence.

Example: We sit on the sofa.

Is SIT a VERB?      Yes, because we can say 'I sit, you sit, he sits'
Is SOFA a VERB?  No, because we can't say 'I sofa, you sofa'

A sentence can have many verbs.
I see a bird.     (1 verb)
I have seen a bird.    (2 verbs)
I have been watching these birds all day.  (3 verbs)

I will help you.   (2 verbs)
Can you help me?   (2 verbs)
He has taken his bag and has left the school. (4 verbs)
