Overview of characters

Ponyboy Curtis: The protagonist and narrator of the story. He's a sensitive and intelligent and struggles with the violence

Johnny Cade: Ponyboy's best friend and a fellow member of the greaser gang. Johnny is a quiet and sensitive boy who comes from an abusive home. 

Dallas Winston (Dally): A tough and reckless member of the greaser gang. Dally has a criminal record and a hardened exterior, but he cares deeply for his friends, especially Johnny.

Sodapop Curtis: Ponyboy's older brother, known for his good looks and easygoing nature. He serves as a peacemaker within the group and tries to keep his brothers out of trouble.

Darrel Curtis (Darry): Ponyboy's oldest brother, who serves as the head of the Curtis household after their parents' deaths. He is hardworking and responsible, but struggles with balancing his role as a caregiver with his desire for a better life.

Two-Bit Mathews: A wisecracking member of the greaser gang known for his sense of humor and love of mischief. Two-Bit serves as a source of comic relief in the story.
