Genitive gebruik

Genitive wordt meestal gebruikt om een bezit aan te duiden:

Nederlands:

Moeders boormachine, mijn auto, haar tas, etc.

Engels:	Patrick’s family, their client’s wishes, our first
	meeting, etc.

 

Zelfstandig naamwoord en namen in enkelvoud:

's komt na het zelfstandig naamwoord : 

Adam's bike

Beethhoven's fifth

The company's profits

Single noun

Her dress is nice.
My sister's dress is nice.

His bike is new.

My brother's bike is new.

Plural nouns

Bij zelfstandige naamwoorden en namen in het meervoud die eindigen op een -s komt de apostrof na de meervoudsvorm. 

a lovers’ quarrel
the Beatles’ albums
the EU countries’ economies

Plural nouns

Their dresses are nice.
My sisters' dresses are nice.

Their bikes are new.

My brothers' bikes are new.

Plural nouns without 's'

Deze woorden krijgen 's:
