Question tags

Question tags zijn korte vraagjes die je aan het einde van een zin plakt om bevestiging te krijgen. In het Nederlands doen we dat vaak met "toch?" of "nietwaar?", maar in het Engels werkt het iets anders.

Question tags - basisregel

Als de zin positief is, is de question tag negatief*. Voorbeeld: You're coming to the party, aren't you?

                                                                                            *not/n't = negatief

Question tags - basisregel

Als de zin negatief* is, is de question tag positief. Voorbeeld: She isn’t home, is she?

Question tags - werkwoorden

Het werkwoord in de question tag moet hetzelfde zijn als het hulpwerkwoord (zoals am/is/are/was/were, has/have/had, will/would/can/could) uit de hoofdzin.
Voorbeeld:
He has been here, hasn't he?

Question tags - geen hulpwerkwoorden

Heeft de hoofdzin geen hulpwerkwoord? Dan gebruik je do/does/did. Voorbeeld:
He works here, doesn't he?
You like school, don't you?

He works here, ...

2. doesn't he?

My brothers are buying a house, ...

1. are they?
2. aren't they?

She isn't crazy, ...

1. isn't she?
2. is she?

Our cats are outside, ...

1. aren't our cats?
