Our Special Easter: The Orthodox Story

What do you already know about Orthodox Easter?

What will we learn today?

At the end of the lesson you will know why Orthodox Easter is called the 'Feast of Feasts', what happens during Easter, and the meaning of the special colours and symbols.

The Feast of Feasts

Easter is the most important day for Orthodox Christians. We celebrate the greatest miracle: Jesus rising from the dead. We say 'Christos Anesti' which means 'Christ is Risen!'

Why is Easter so special?

Easter shows that life is stronger than death. It gives us hope and happiness. We remember Jesus’s love for all people.

Let’s Watch a Video

Let’s watch a story about the Resurrection. Pay attention to what happens to Jesus and how people feel.

A Question for You

If a friend asked why you celebrate Easter a week later than others, what would you say?

Drawing the Easter Timeline

The Resurrection Roadmap

It was a quiet day. Jesus rested in the tomb and everyone waited.

This was the day Jesus was put on the cross. We remember his sacrifice.

Holy Friday: The Cross

The Resurrection!

On Easter Sunday, Jesus came back to life! We light candles and say 'Christos Anesti!' This is a miracle and brings us joy.

Celebration Time!

We celebrate with red eggs and a special meal. The red eggs remind us of new life and joy!

Colours of Easter

Red stands for the joy of life. White and gold mean purity and happiness. Purple is for the quiet time of Lent.

The Holy Light

Bringing the Light Home

We bring the Holy Light home from church to share warmth and Jesus’s love. Look at your Lambada candle – you are carrying the light in your heart!
