Bij de meeste zelfstandige naamwoorden voeg je een -s toe aan het woord om meervoud te maken.

Examples:

cat – cats

dog - dogs

house – houses 

Bij znw die eindigen op een ‑s, -ss, -sh, -ch, -x, of -z, voeg je -es toe om meervoud te maken.

Examples:

bus – buses

marsh – marshes

lunch – lunches

tax – taxes

blitz – blitzes

Letter -y:

Als een znw eindigt op een -y en daarvoor komt een medeklinker (p, m, l etc.), dan verander je -y in -ies om meervoud te maken

Examples:

baby - babies

city – cities

puppy – puppies

Spelling (-y)

Als een znw eindigt op -y maar daarvoor komt een klinker (a, o, i, etc) dan voeg je gewoon een -s toe.

Examples:

ray – rays

play - plays

boy – boys

toy - toys

Spelling change: (-f /-fe)

Als een znw eindigt in -f of -fe, dan verandert dit vaak in -ves om meervoud te maken.

Examples:

life - lives

wife - wives

wolf - wolves

Dit werk niet voor:

- Roof

- Safe

- Dwarf

- Chief

Letter -o:

Als een znw eindigt op een -o, met daarvoor een medeklinker, dan voeg je -es toe om het meervoud te maken.

Examples:

hero - heroes

potato – potatoes

tomato – tomatoes
