    I can talk about events that went on for a while in the past.

Past Simple - rerun
• WHEN: Wanneer je het hebt over een gebeurtenis op een bepaald moment in het verleden. De gebeurtenis is afgelopen.
• HOW:  regular verbs > stam + -ed
                 irregular verbs > eigen vorm, 2e rijtje
• Signaalwoorden: Last year, yesterday, an hour ago.

Past Continuous
• WHEN: Gebruik de Past Continuous wanneer je het hebt over een gebeurtenis die in het verleden een tijdje aan de gang was.
• HOW: onderwerp + was/were + base+-ing
• EXAMPLE: I was eating lunch with a friend at noon.
Ik ben voor twaalf uur begonnen met lunchen en ging daar na twaalf uur mee verder.

Past Simple vs Past Continuous
• The Past Continuous describes situations that went on for some time.
I was eating lunch with a friend at noon. 
It was raining whole afternoon
• The Past Simple describes ‘actions’ that happen quickly 
I knocked on your door at noon. 
He dropped the expensive vase on the floor.
