4.2 Present Perfect

Present Perfect: have/has verb+ed or past participle (3rd irr.v.)

• An action/event that started in the past and is relevant in the present -> She hasn't eaten all day. (= She's hungry now...:()

• Situations that started in the past and continue up to now
  -> They have taught at this school for 5 years now.

• Life experiences -> Have you ever broken a bone?

past simple

= talk about <b>finished actions</b> in the past. You usually say <b>when</b> they happened --&gt; <u>Last weekend</u> I <b>went</b> to Amsterdam. She <b>ate</b> a sandwich <u>yesterday</u>. He <b>slept</b> until 12pm. <br>

4.2 Present Perfect

• Since = show the exact point in time when it started = gebruik je vanaf een specifiek punt: ​ 9 o’clock, last Monday, 1st of January​, 2023
•                                          I have had my laptop since 2020.
• For = to show duration of a period of time = gebruik je bij een periode:​ Two weeks, five minutes, 6 years​
•                                          I have had my laptop for 3 years.
• To create a question: use HOW LONG + have + past participle (verbED / 3rd column) = For how long have you had your laptop?

Think about the answer:
They ...... (verloren) that championship
..... 3 years in a row.

4.2 Present Perfect

with JUST (= net): (Emily's) Emily has just scored. 

with ALREADY (= al): Serena has already retired.

with (N)EVER (= (n)ooit): Have you ever played baseball? 

                                         I have never played baseball.

with ALWAYS (= altijd): They have always done well.

= these are written in the middle of the Present Perfect!

with YET (= nog): We haven't played against that team yet.
