Je gebruikt de present om aan te geven dat iets NU, in het HEDEN (Present) AAN DE GANG (continuous) is! 

Wat is het verschil? 

I play football                    -             Okay,  but are you playing now? 

I watch Netflix a lot        -            Okay, but are you watching now? 
                                                                (I hope not) 

Simple :  het is over het algemeen waar, of een gewoonte.  
Continuous:  het is nu bezig.
