Two options:

De lijdende vorm
Het is niet belangrijk wie wat doet, maar wat er met iets gedaan wordt. 

Active: John reads a book.
Passive: A book is read by John. 

Active: They have cancelled all flights. 
Passive: All flight have been cancelled.

Als je een bedrijvende (active) zin omzet naar een lijdende (passive) zin, moet je ervoor zorgen dat de zin in dezelfde grammaticale tijd blijft staan. 
When changing a sentence from active to passive (or passive to active) make sure you use the same tense!!

Er staat altijd een vorm van 'to be' in de zin. 'to be' wordt vervoegd zodat het in de juiste grammaticale tijd staat. Hierna komt altijd het voltooid deelwoord.

  1. Not important who/what is responsible for the action. (anonymity)​
  2. Not known who/what is responsible for the action. ​
  3. Focus is on action.

You use a passive when in Dutch you say 'er' of 'men'. In English you start with 'it'
