something that happened once or multiple times  in the past
something that was true for some time in the past:
"John F Kenedy worked in the White House"

Irregular verbs
"JFK was president of the united states
"Harvey Lee Oswald shot JFK"

used when:
- one thing happened before the other
- it happened for some time or again

- shows change or growth
