Spelling:
A verb ending on a consonant + -y, ---> -y in -ie:

• I carry - I carried

No change with a vowel + -y :

• I play - I played

When a verb ends with an -e, then just + -d 

• I live - I lived

Final consonant is doubled when it ends with vowel + consonant:

• I drop - I dropped

*you are having dinner from 17:00 - 18:00 and at 17:25 you get a phonecall

I was having dinner when I got a phonecall.

Sometimes 2 long actions happen.

She was dancing while she was cooking

Both will be past continuous 

While is an indicator

Present perfect form

De present perfect maak je met has / have + voltooid deelwoord 

I have seen this movie before.

She has just left the room.

Let op!

Deze tijd gebruikt de derde form van de werkwoord

When to use the present perfect:

1. Present perfect gebruik je om te zeggen dat iets is begonnen in het verleden en nog steeds doorgaat.

I have lived in the Netherlands for 14 years.

(Let op! Dit is anders dan Nederlands!)

When to use the present perfect:

2. Je gebruikt het ook om over ervaringen en evenementen tot het heden

I have eaten sushi.

I haven't gone snowboarding yet.

When to use the present perfect:

3. Je gebruikt present perfect voor acties die een connectie hebben met het heden, zoals een resultaat die je nu kan zien.

She has finished her homework, I can see her work on page 5.

I have broken my wrist, now I'm wearing a cast.

When to use Present Perfect:

Tip: Bij present perfect is het NIET belangrijk wanneer iets is gebeurd. Je hebt dus nooit een specifieke tijd in je zin.
