When/ while / as
  • We use while and as to talk about actions that happen at the same time and are used to introduce longer actions
  • While you were having lunch, I was working hard in the garden
  • They arrived as I was leaving
  • We use when to introduce a shorter action that interrupts a longer one or when to talk about an event that is immediately followed by another event
  • He was walking home when he met an old friend
  • When it stopped snowing, we went outside

Present simple
  • You use the present simple when something always, never or regularly happens. Habbit, fact, fixed time schedule
  • I always drink tea in the morning

Present continuous
  • You use the present continuous when something is happening right now
  • I am drinking tea at the moment
  • to be (am/are/is) + werkwoord ending in -ING

  • something happend in the past and went on for a while or something happend and this interrupted something else
  • We were dancing at John's party when his parents came home
