Footnotes
Discuss:

Have you ever come across footnotes?
What are they?
When/where do we use them?

Slide 5 - Slide

Footnote
- placed with information you want to cite (bc it's someone else's words/ideas)
- appears on the bottom of the page = at the foot
- begins with 1 and are numbered throughout your essay/article = don't worry: Word does this for you ;)
- use it whenever you cite a book, article, data, online source...
- information separated by commas

Slide 6 - Slide

Let's look at an example
In huiswerk, I shared this document in ELO - Studiewijzer (you can look at it later)

- the number is added after the period (.) or comma (,)
- Author’s First + Last Name, Title, (year)
create footnotes

Slide 7 - Slide

Practice
Open the document that I shared with you

On the 2nd page, you'll find 3 quotes/paraphrases - create footnotes to go with them
We'll do the first one together

You have to use Google to find the extra info ;)

Slide 8 - Slide

Can you...
...use this year's grammar?
...create footnotes?

Don't forget to read in your free time and start working on the article in flex hours as well!

Slide 9 - Slide

Time to plan & practise these 2 weeks!
Now that you know how to use footnotes, go to trustworthy websites (not buzzfeed) and do research for your article.
Read the assignment again (studiewijzer) and start putting a factual article together about your topic.

Use narrative tenses, used to/would.
Use the future forms at least 2x.
Use non-defining clauses at least 2x.
 Support your ideas/opinions with sources.
Structure
1. Title - must be catchy!
2. Body
Engage reader = address them
Use a range of vocab = don't repeat yourself
Refer to stats / data
Use linkers: add, contrast, result
3. Ending - summarise
