Grammar: tenses

Present Simple

The Present Simple tense is used for routines, general truths, and fixed schedules. (feit - gewoonte - toestand)

Its structure is subject + base verb (with -s for third-person singular: He eats, she works). 

Common time expressions include always, often, every day.

Present continuous

The Present Continuous tense describes actions happening right now or temporary situations.

 It follows subject + be (am/is/are) + verb-ing (I am working, she is running). 

Typical time markers include now, at the moment, currently.

Present Perfect vs Past Simple

• In the Past Simple, the action happened in the past and is now finished.
• In the Present Perfect, the action is still ongoing or has a connection to the past.

Present Perfect vs Past Simple

Present perfect: already, for, since, how long.

Past simple: last year, yesterday, in 2010, an hour ago.

Move around the class asking the questions from the worksheet to collect information about your classmates. 

You may only ask each classmate questions until they say "yes" once. Write down the names of the students who answered the questions with "yes".

After someone has said "yes" ask for extra information.
