  • used to specify an action in progress in the past.

Past continuous of simple past? 
  • 1 event - 1 action simple past
    I went to the zoo yesterday
  • 1 event - continuous action past continuous
    Yesterday at eight I was watching the news

Past continuous of simple past? 
  • sequence = simple past
    Last week I went to the zoo and out for dinner in a restaurant.
  • 2 simultaneous events =  2x past continuous
    I was having dinner while my husband was working.
  • Two events in sequence; one interrupts the other = simple past + past continuous.
    I was doing the dishes when you entered the room.

Fill in the correct form of the tenses. When you have to give more than one answer, separate these with the use of a comma.

3. In groups of 3 (not more) 
Based on the extract you have just seen  summarising, comment, give your opinion and write a conclusion using the expressions. Write at least 250 words and use complex sentences about 'how to spot a liar' Use at least the following categories: Kanttekenning maken, iets samenvatten en afronden, Standpunt verwoorden, twijfel uiten, zaken toevoegen.
Use advanced linking devices (moreover, nevertheless etc) and conjunctions and relative pronouns.

Hand in at the end of class.
