There are a variety of teacher toolkits and online teaching platforms available on the market, and they all focus on something slightly different. When it comes to the crunch, what are the major differences between LessonUp and Nearpod and why should you go for LessonUp?

I was originally a Nearpod user, but I didn't like that students couldn't get instant feedback unless I was doing a live lesson. I did a trial with LessonUp and fell in love. Not only does it allow the students to work at their own pace, but each slide gives them instant feedback.

1. A free AI assistant to save time

We decided to embrace AI at the beginning of last year! Not all teachers wish to create lessons with the aid of AI. LessonUp users have the flexibility to choose whether to create their own lessons from scratch, or give AI a try. Nearpod does not offer an AI solution like Maia, our AI assistant—designed to cater to teachers’ needs for pedagogically sound lessons, and reduced workloads. For more information, read more about Maia.

2. Great value for money

For the cost of just a couple of cups of coffee per teacher, you gain access to a comprehensive digital teacher toolkit that encompasses teaching, assessment, organisation, feedback, monitoring, sharing, and reflection—across an entire school. At approximately £7 per month per teacher, any school can unlock the full spectrum of LessonUp’s features and capabilities, making it an unparalleled & cost-effective choice.

3. No limits to amount of students or storage

LessonUp helps engage an unlimited number of students and has unlimited storage capacity. Any number of pupils or students can attend lessons, whether they are conducted remotely, in a hybrid format, or in-person. This is valid for free accounts and all subscriptions. Nearpod has chosen to limit the number of students who can join a lesson. The number of students differs depending on the subscription you choose.

4. A most beloved interactive feature

Both Nearpod and LessonUp offer many interactive features to motivate students! A LessonUp-only feature, the spinner, is frequently highlighted as one of our most beloved interactive features. It adds a burst of colour in motion, aiding teachers in selecting a random student to answer a question—modernising the traditional use of lolly sticks. Alternatively, the spinner can be integrated in a gamified lesson or include engaging questions to assess comprehension or encourage reflection.

5. Intuitive and user-friendly

LessonUp is an incredibly intuitive tool that doesn't require extensive learning. Teachers can witness the impact of using it with their students right away. For example, after creating a lesson, you can teach it directly without first exiting the editor mode. This is a very handy feature that can save you some time when creating lessons and lesson plans, as you can instantly check what your lesson would look like in 'teach' mode.
